Real Functions computed by Parametric Weighted Finite Automata

چکیده
Weighted finite automata (WFA) are an extension of finite automata that can be used to compute real functions and parametric WFA (PWFA) are a multidimensional variant of WFA. This paper shows that each PWFA computable set is computable by a PWFA that has an alphabet cardinality of two. Further we show that real polynomials with solely rational coefficients can be computed by PWFA that do not use non-rational numbers. We study a class of PWFA that behaves like WFA on mirrored input words and obtain the result that the only smooth real functions definable by PWFA in this family are polynomials.

The Negative Binomial Distribution Efficiency in Finite Mixture of Semi-parametric Generalized Linear Models
Introduction Selection the appropriate statistical model for the response variable is one of the most important problem in the finite mixture of generalized linear models. One of the distributions which it has a problem in a finite mixture of semi-parametric generalized statistical models, is the Poisson distribution. In this paper, to overcome over dispersion and computational burden, finite ...
متن کاملParametric Weighted Finite Automata and Multidimensional Dyadic Wavelets
Wavelets have found many applications in signal-analysis and as transform-functions in image compression, e.g. in JPEG 2000. This paper studies representations of well-known types of wavelets and their multidimensional variations in terms of finite-state devices called parametric weighted finite automata (PWFA). Since these PWFA can also simulate easily generalizations of iterated function syst...
متن کاملOn Continuous Weighted Finite Automata
We investigate the continuity of the ω-functions and real functions defined by weighted finite automata (WFA). We concentrate on the case of average preserving WFA. We show that every continuous ω-function definable by some WFA can be defined by an average preserving WFA and then characterize minimal average preserving WFA whose ω-function or ω-function and real function are continuous. We obta...
متن کاملAlternating Weighted Automata
Weighted automata are finite automata with numerical weights on transitions. Nondeterministic weighted automata define quantitative languages L that assign to each word w a real number L(w) computed as the maximal value of all runs over w, and the value of a run r is a function of the sequence of weights that appear along r. There are several natural functions to consider such as Sup, LimSup, L...
متن کاملGeneralization bounds for learning weighted automata
This paper studies the problem of learning weighted automata from a finite sample of strings with real-valued labels. We consider several hypothesis classes of weighted automata defined in terms of three different measures: the norm of an automaton’s weights, the norm of the function computed by an automaton, and the norm of the corresponding Hankel matrix. We present new data-dependent general...
